FAQ
Our FAQ is a work in progress, please check back often for
updates to this page.

 |
Do you offer VoIP termination in
addition to origination?
Yes, please see our
products and/or our
rates page
for more details.
|
 |
What is the billing increment for origination and
termination usage?
We charge all origination and termination minutes in
15 second increments with a minimum 60 second charge per
call.

Do you offer hosting or co-location of VoIP
gateways such as Asterisk/Trixbox?
At this time we do not offer co-location of VoIP
equipment but may in the future. We do offer dedicated
Asterisk/Trixbox servers located right in the same data
center as our gateway. Please
contact us for more
info on this service. If you are looking for a
great way to get started with an Asterisk/Trixbox type
solution with little or no startup cost, check out
Lylix.net. Lylix offers a Virtual Private
Server option that works well for getting started without a
lot of $$ out of pocket, according to some of our current
customers.

 |
What protocols do you currently support?
We currently offer IAX and SIP protocols.
|
 |
What codecs do you currently support?
g711, GSM and g729.
|
 |
Can I use your service from outside the US?
Yes, you can buy our origination services and we can
terminate the calls to any IP enabled device in the world
via the SIP or IAX protocol. You can also terminate calls to
the US 48 states using our services by sending the calls to
us using SIP or IAX.
|
 |
How
many concurrent calls can I make/receive?
With the exception of our flat rate DIDs we do not
limit the number of concurrent calls you can receive per
DID. Our flat rate DIDs have a limit of 2 incoming calls per
DID. There is a 20 simultaneous call limit per account (not
per DID). The 20 call limit can be raised upon request but
this decision is made on a case by case basis by our
management and depends on several criteria. Outgoing calls
are limited by the number of simultaneous calls on your
account only.
|
 |
Do you support Caller ID?
Yes we support both incoming and outgoing caller-id
number. We do not support the name portion of caller-id (CNAM).
We pass exactly the caller-id number which you pass to us,
if no caller ID number is passed to us then the carrier will
likely choose what the caller ID will be based on the switch
the call terminates to.
|
 |
Why don't you support CNAM (Caller ID
Name)?
Many of our competitors claim to offer Caller ID
Name services but in reality they are offering something
totally different. Most VoIP services do not purchase
caller-id name services from their upstream carriers because
it's expensive. Since many VoIP service offerings are geared
towards the consumer and must be priced dirt cheap in order
to compete, there is not much room for extras when it comes
to spending money on these sort of things (or quality calls
or customer service for that matter). The solution many of
our competitors have come up with is to take the phone
number of calls coming into their system and do a lookup
using public services such as Google Phone Book or 411.com.
If there is a match in one of the phone directory services
they display it on your phone as the caller-id name. The
problem with this approach is that MANY times the name that
comes back on these public searches is old, out of date or
just flat out incorrect. A good example is that one of our
employees use to have a Vonage line while we were still in
the testing phases of our service. He also had a land line
for testing purposes. Each time he called the Vonage number
from his land line phone the Vonage caller id name would
show up as Sandy Johnson or something like that. The problem
of course is that our employee had never even heard of this
person, yet every time he made a call to anyone with a
Vonage account the person on the other end would be likely
to not answer the phone because they did not recognize that
name. We feel that providing inaccurate information is far
worse than providing none. We could take the "Don't care"
approach of some of our competitors but this is simply not
how we do business. We are considering offering this type of
"Best Effort" caller-id name service as an optional feature
which customers can turn on or off. With the ability for our
customers to turn the feature on or off we leave the choice
totally up to them to receive caller-id name which could
sometimes be inaccurate. We do not currently have a time
frame for this optional feature and we are not sure at this
time if we will offer it or not.
|
 |
What countries can I call using your
service?
At this time we offer calling to the US 48 states
(not Alaska or Hawaii) and Canada. We will likely offer
International calling in the future but do not have a time
frame at this point. Most PBX systems including Asterisk &
Trixbox are easily configured to use a different provider
for international calls.
